It is the November 9, 2016 – there's snow in the Black Forest now. The odometer of my Nissan Patrol shows 180,909 km. I've been working towards this moment for the last two months. I'm overjoyed and sad at the same time. I won't see my family and friends again for a long time.
I said goodbye to my friends in the morning. I think they're used to it by now; they know me as a globetrotter. I even had a passenger for the trip from Stuttgart to Munich. I'd advertised the ride online. Then my journey took me through Austria to just before the Slovenian border. At a rest stop, I met a Croatian truck driver. We cooked and ate dinner together. He spoke German quite well. It got cold at night, around zero degrees Celsius. I was glad I had insulated my car well and that the auxiliary heater was working.
