Hi, Ben here! It all started in 2012 – two years in Australia, 15 months in New Zealand, Israel, India, Thailand, Indonesia. I've been on the road again and again ever since.
In November 2016 I set off overland in my Nissan Patrol, from Germany to India. 20,233 km across the Balkans, through Turkey, Iran and Pakistan. Then on to Sri Lanka and Nepal, and on the way back another 10 days through Iraq. You'll find all the stories from back then in the archive.
Now it's time to go again. This time to Africa – Berlin → Mombasa, in my Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ78. I'll set off at the end of August 2027, through Morocco and West Africa down to southern Africa, then up to the Kenyan coast.
This time I don't just want to drive – I want to hike a lot. I've set myself 100 hiking days: the highest peaks and the best trails along the route. I'll start with an Atlas crossing.
Here I write about everything that happens on the road – the people, the borders, the breakdowns. And about everything I learn along the way, for anyone planning a trip like this themselves.
